Coffeeberry, previously called Benk, is a small coffee shop run by the husband and wife team of Hanne and Thomas Jørgensen. Located on the southwestern coast of Norway, Coffeeberry offers a focused selection of single estate coffees from a variety of Norwegian specialty coffee roasters.
Before moving to Sandnes and setting up Benk (now Coffeeberry) in 2009, Thomas was a store manager at Stockfleths and Kaffefuglen. In addition to his long experience in the coffee industry, he placed 4th in the 2007 World Cup Tasting Championship, and 3rd in the 2008 Norwegian Barista Championship.
At Coffeeberry, black coffees are brewed in separate brew area of the shop, using the Hario V60 and Aeropress. The coffees are rotated on a daily basis.
Coffeeberry serves coffee from Kaffa, Solberg & Hansen, Tim Wendelboe, Lippe and Supreme Roastworks. Thomas and Hanne specifically look for single estate coffees with a lot of character to serve their customers.
“We’re strong believers in Direct Trade. We aim to purchase from our producers with as few middle men as possible. As a result of this, all products we sell have ‘fingerprints’ making them exciting and unique in both flavour and background.”
To them, the defining feature of Nordic coffee culture is the interest in and focus on quality.
