Coffee to me is not just a beverage, it’s a way of life. It was in 2008 when I started at Ristretto Espresso Specialists in Perth, WA, that I started taking coffee seriously. Being Swedish, I come from a childhood of filter brewed coffee, but I had fully embraced the espresso tradition of Australia, thinking that was the pinnacle of coffee culture. Through Ristretto, I got into Barista Competitions and cupping as a practice.
We were the first in WA pushing Aeropress and V60 brewing methods, but ironically it wasn’t until I moved back to Sweden more recently, I fully started to enjoy exploring the various brewing methods for coffee. Being able to travel offers not only opportunity to taste coffee, but to meet people sharing ideas, techniques and experience. Many times I’ve been humbled by the vast knowledge of others, and I find myself forced to start all over again. Slightly masochistic, but always rewarding in the end!
