The 2012 World Aeropress Championship

The 2012 World Aeropress Championship

By Chris Kolbu

Held in Portland, Oregon in conjunction with the 2012 Specialty Coffee Association of America expo, this years’ version of the increasingly popular Aeropress championship saw Belgium take home the golden Aeropress, followed in 2nd and 3rd place by Norway and Sweden, respectively – a strong showing by the Nordic countries!

We have covered the format of the World Aeropress Championships in greater detail before. This years’ winner, Charlene de Buysere of OR Coffee Roasters in Belgium won – aside from fame and glory – a ticket to the 2012 Nordic Barista Cup!

Second place went to Ingri M Johnsen of Solberg & Hansen, Oslo (who brought tap water from her apartment!); third place to Emil Eriksson of Johan & Nyström, Stockholm.

This year, the competition coffee – a washed Ethiopian Sidamo – was furnished by Heart Coffee Roasters, run by Finnish former snowboarder and Portland transplant Wille Yli Luoma, a must-visit if you ever go to Portland.

The winning brewing parameters will be published on the official website shortly.
